Chick'Stop Roasted House

Most people would agree that the most important factor to consider before opening a shop/restaurant would be the venue. To some, convenience is as important as the quality of food when it comes to picking a restaurant. The price of the food should also be reasonable and not overpriced. Chick'Stop, the restaurant which i went on the 28th of February 2013, satisfies all the needs above as it is:

  • Strategically located
  • Reasonably priced
  • Good quality food
  • Convenient to reach (especially for students studying in Sunway Collage or in Inti Subang Campus)

On the 28th of February 2013, Thursday, I went to Chick'Stop for lunch. I was greeted and seated by the friendly workers there. The workers were efficient in taking my order and even suggested a few dishes since I was quite new there. The manager was kind and friendly too. He would talk to me and made sure I was enjoying my meal. I would give the customer service a rating of 9/10

Promotions/Deals offered in Chick'Stop

(Redemption Card)

(Check-in Discounts)

Chick'Stop offers many kinds of deals, discounts and promotions to attract customers.

  • 'Redemption Card' - The 'Redemption Card' allows the customer to redeem a free dish for every 4 stamps collected. A stamp is given with every purchase of RM15 in a single receipt.
  • 'Check-in discount' - For every check-in through foursquare (a location-based social networking website), the customer is granted a 5% discount on any spaghetti item. For the customer with the most Check-ins collected, he/she is granted a 20% discount on food and beverages.
With the rapid improvement of technology, almost everyone has a smartphone. Chick'Stop is able to keep up with this improvement of technology and use the 'Check-in discount' method to promote itself. It is a great and effective promotional technique.

The Menu

The menu used in Chick'Stop is a simple one-page menu which makes the process of deciding which food to pick much easier. There are pictures to show the customers what the food would look like. The food is listed in an organized manner and it doesn't cause confusion. There is also a detailed explanation (the ingredients used) under the name of the food that I find extremely helpful to vegetarians and to those with allergies towards certain kinds of food.

(Set Meal)

I ordered a set meal (1/4 chicken with 2 side dishes) which cost RM9.90 and paid and additional RM1.00 for a bowl of soup and a refreshing beverage. The portion of food was surprisingly large given the low price charged. The food was served within 10 minutes. The quality of the food was great. The Mac' n Cheese and butter rice was soft, the chicken meat was tender and the asparagus soup wasn't seasoned too heavily. I would give the food a rating of 7/10.

 The Interior of Chick'Stop

The ambience in Chick'Stop is calm and relaxing. Many students were chatting away and relaxing while eating. The tables are not too close to each other, allowing customers and workers to walk around without trouble. The interior design is simple and has a calming effect. The hanging lights matches well with the design. It is not hot inside as there are air conditioners and fans. Air is well ventilated. Smooth Jazz and songs from the 90's are played, making it a relaxing place to dine in or to hang out with friends/colleague. Some students consider Chick'Stop as their second home. I would give the ambience a rating of 8/10

However, it is a little dim inside. Students aren't able to read without hurting their eyes. Some tables wobble too much. The password for the wifi isn't located anywhere inside the restaurant. Here are some suggestions to make it a better place:
  • Add a reading corner (for students who enjoys reading while eating)
  • Check the conditions of chairs and tables regularly
  • Add a glass door in the doorway (to prevent the cool air from escaping)
  • Attach the password for the wifi on tables or walls

Overall, it was an amazing meal and an amazing experience. I would definitely come back again. I highly recommend this restaurant if you would like to relax from work or class and enjoy a nice, filling meal.

When Chilly Meets Pan Mee @ Face to Face Noodles House

Introducing Face to Face Noodles House, an irresisitable traditional recipe of Pan Mee which makes your taste buds feel even hotter!

Pan Mee is a prominent household Malaysian Chinese cuisine, handmade from kneaded flour. Face to Face Noodles House is one of the specializing in local fare, combining simple yet comfortable atmosphere with excellent fusion of their Sarawak's homemade noodles ' Kolok Mee ' and Pan Mee.
The founder believes face to face contact is the most personal sincere and direct communication manner, that is how the restaurant had its name. The restaurant is divided into indoors air-conditioned section and the outdoors alfresco section.

There are only tables with edges to meet the purspose of its name.

Posters on wall introducing their specialities.

Let's see what they got us here.

Their signature Pan Mee is a must ordered item. It comes with sunny side up egg, anchovies and minced pork along with a small bowl of hot soup. You can even opt for thick, thin or pinch noodles to fulfill your expectations towards the dish. According to them, you are supposed to break the egg yolk amd mix with the noodles together with dried crispy chilly before eating. What a perfect combination!

Pan Mee RM6.30.

What's Pan Mee without homemade chilly?

Besides, a friendly waitress recommended their Traditional Sarawak Noodles as known as 'Kolok Mee'. Since the great grandfather of the founder was previously the main supplier for 'Kolok Mee' in Sarawak, it is highly recommmended as it is the most authentic noodles in Sarawak. The noodles come with slices of bbq pork, minced pork and bouncy pork balls. The noodles resemble wantan noodles (another chinese traditional noodle served with slices of bbq pork) slightly but with more spring.

Traditional Sarawak Noodles RM6.30.

I chose their ice blended mango yogurt drink to complete my meal. One good thing to mention about the drink is they chose the famous brand Bliss by Nestle as their base. It is worth it to have such a quality drink. However, I find it too sweet for me, otherwise, it is a fantastic drink to have under the hot weather.

Ice blended mango yogurt drink RM6.50.

Articles about the restaurant displayed in outdoor's section.

Face to Face Noodles House has been recognized by several newspapers. ' The noodles here are handmade daily and does not contain any preservatives and alkaline.' said the owner. You can see its success by witnessing more and more branches to be opened throughout the years. Overall, my family and I enjoyed our lunch. Their service and cleanliness are well maintained. Food arrived in less than 10minutes. Face to Face Noodles House is certainly a great place to visit once in a while. To readers who did not try it yet, why not give it a try?

Everyone wants some Chili's!

Looking for great grilled food and drinks? Then look no more, for Chili's Grill & Bar Restaurant is the place to go! As an avid lover of western food myself, I absolutely recommend Chili's for a great dining experience.

Chili's Grill & Bar in Empire Shopping Gallery

First thing to note before going there is that the place will be relatively packed with people, so do expect some waiting time. Chili's, unlike most casual dining outlets do not allow advanced reservations, so you’ll have no choice but to wait for your turn or go there during non-peak hours. Unfortunately, my family and I decided to have dinner there last Friday. The line was long as usual and it took about 20-25 minutes before we were seated.

Just a word of advice, when you order at Chili’s ,you’ll be better off ordering the meals and sharing them with your friends or family as the portions are large. Order an appetizer, a main course, dessert and share them, that way you’ll get to taste a variety of their meals. We made a mistake by ordering individual orders and ended up forcing ourselves to finish it.

Before I start with the food, let me tell you about the drinks. Chili’s is known to have many types of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The best part of it would be the Bottomless drinks that cost only RM8.95, you can order a drink of your choice and have as many refills as you want. Fancy alcoholic drinks? Chili's serves a variety of alcoholic drinks ranging from margaritas, cocktails and good ol' beer. My dad ordered a Classic Mojito while my mum had a Bottomless grape Fanta. I decided to have a pint of Heineken beer since it was a weekend anyways.

Bottomless drinks for only RM8.95!

Classic Mojito for only RM20.95! It contains Bacardi Rum, Monin Mojito Syrup, lime juice and fresh mint leaves topped with Sprite! A drink that would leave a strong aftertaste, I personally wouldn't recommend it though!

If you don't want anything too fancy, then a good old beer can't go wrong for just RM 13.50!

Moving on to food,we ordered a Triple Dipper as our appetizer. My dad ordered a Grilled Salmon with Garlic & Herbs while my mum settled for Fish and Chips and I had their Lamb Shoulder. We also had this amazing dessert, the Molten Chocolate Cake!

Triple Dipper (RM29.95) as our appetizer. A combo of 3 different appetizers, Chicken Crispers, Wings over Buffalo and Southwestern Eggrolls with 3 different sauces for dipping! It comes in portions for four.
Grilled Salmon w/ Garlic & Herbs for only RM 39.95! Salmon served with seasonal veges and garlic rice! The fish was fresh and tasty but unfortunately was a little bit cold when the dish arrived.

Fish & Chips for only RM25.95. However, the fish & chips there were tasted ordinary if compared to any other fish & chips out there.

If you go to Chili's and not order something grilled, what would be the point then? The Lamb Shoulder is a must try for RM30.95!The lamb was grilled almost perfectly and with the mash potatoes, garlic bread and vegetables sure gave me a hard time to finish them all!
The Chocolate Molten Cake for only RM19.50! A very sweet dessert but would definitely leave you wanting for more!

Another thing about Chili's is that the service there is great! The table next door were celebrating a boy's birthday and they prepared a brownie for the boy and the staff sang and clap a birthday song to the birthday boy! This makes me want to celebrate my birthday here!

All things considered, my visit to Chili's this time was a great dining experience. The bill came up to RM206 which was slightly expensive for 3 people but it was worth it. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone as this place is great place to dine with friends, have drinks at the bar or even have a date here!

A Visit To Yut Kee

Last Sunday, my father brought me and my aunt's family from New Zealand to have breakfast in Yut Kee(é•’è®°) Restaurant. Yut Kee is one of the oldest ''kopitiam'' in Kuala Lumpur having established since 1928. It is 85 years old this year! Presently, it is being operated by the third generation of the Lee family. Yut Kee was selected as the ''Best Chinese Restaurant","Best Malaysian Restaurant" and "Best Hawker/Mamak"
from the year 2010 till 2012. Although Yut Kee was located along the busy Jalan Dang Wangi, but finding a car park is not an arduous task. My father parked his car behind the old and run down buildings near Yut Kee and we walked happily together. When we reached the restaurant, there's already a bunch of crowd waiting outside. I was not surprised by this scene because I know that Yut Kee's always flooded with cheerful customers of all ages and the queue is never ending. They include couples, colleagues and even whole multi-generational families. Customers should not be deterred by the long queue because it doesn't take long for us to get our seats. A good way to avoid the brunch crowd is to go there early. My father went to the front counter, tell the person in charge his name and the number of people who are dining with him so that our presence will be noted. Customers would have to share table with others if their party consist of less than 4 people.

Inside Yut Kee...

Yut Kee offers great food at very affordable price. Due to extreme hunger, I ordered a plate of roast pork,
chicken chop, fried cellophane noodle, french toast and pork bun and the meals came pretty quick. First of  all, the roast pork which attracts many food lovers is only available on Friday and Sunday. It is priced at RM12 for a plate which contains two slices. It is usually sold out within an hour, that is from 11am-12pm. The roast pork has a crispy texture on the pig skin and tender meat in thin sliced with stuffings served with exclusive apple sauce. It is a must-try meal in Yut Kee! Next, the fried cellophane noodle, also known as, fried ''tung fun'' has a toothsome texture and was evenly seasoned. The noodle has an odourous wok scent and is glossy due to the use pork lard to fry it. It is priced at RM6.50 per plate. For those of you who enjoy spiciness, you can try out the ''sambal belacan'' that comes with the noodle. For your information, a bit of this sambal can be hellish for the tongue and tummy! After that, I tried out the famous pork bun, also known as ''roti babi''. The bun is deep fried with whipped egg, just like a french toast. There's some shredded pork that tasted like barbecued pork and a lot of onions inside. Then, I also tasted the Hainanese styled chicken chop. It is priced at RM8.50 per plate. It consists of a piece of deep-fried deboned chicken with mixed vegetables on a pool of brown gravy. The gravy tasted better after I added a few drops of Lea and Perrins Worcestershire sauce.

While waiting for my father and my aunt's family to finish their meals, I take a glance at the coffee shop to see what is so special about it. With the presence of a vintage collection of older furnitures, the shop radiates a kind of ancient ''kopitiam'' sensation which favours many old timers like my father. Yut Kee is rustic with genuine memorabilia, framed newspaper cuttings about the coffee shop that are hung on the walls and warm and energetic people who are constantly entering this narrow, tiny space. Then I saw the glass display case which are always full of fresh baked cakes and cups of coconut jams. I also witnessed some of the Burmese staffs with green shirts walking around so busily to attend to the customers' needs. Coffee is the best drink to order. Almost everyone drinks coffee there. The aroma of coffee filled the entire restaurant when a breeze comes along. When all of us are done with our meals, we quickly walked out so that the next customer could get his seat. My father and I went to the counter to pay and before leaving Yut Kee, I bought and took away a box of marble cake and also swiss roll.

We left full and happy because we really had a delicious and wonderful breakfast. I really look forward to visiting Yut Kee Restaurant again.

Chill, eat & hang out in Ben's @ Pavilion

Looking for a quiet yet cozy place to dine? I would strongly recommend Ben’s in Pavilion, a restaurant that serves food with a combination of eastern and western style. My friend and I were the first to walk into Ben’s in Pavilion at eleven in the morning. Waiters and waitresses in their white formal shirt along with their blue tie greeted us as one of them usher us to our seats.
Ben’s offer a total of three different environments for your luxurious dining experience. First is home environment, each table was set up between a long sofa complete with four pillows and two comfortable tan arm chairs.

Conducive environment for diners to dine at all time

Second is the open air section. In this section, diners are allowed to smoke as it is open air. Besides that, this section is free from noise disruption as Ben’s is located six floors from the ground.

The open section in Ben’s restaurant.

With the height, diners are also able to get a spectacular view of one of the busiest streets in Kuala Lumpur especially at night. Third one would be the normal typical restaurant setting, where four arm chairs surround a square table. However, a hanging dim orange light is placed right on top the table, creating a restful atmosphere.

One thing special about Ben’s is their menu, a menu with only words and description about the food is so unconvincing yet it creates an anxiety for diners to know how the food actually look like without knowing the actual image of the food. But, trust me every food served in Ben’s are with quality.
Menu with a specific description of every single dish.

The first dish that I strongly recommend is their Beef Lasagne, made up of layers of pasta, minced beef Bolognese, and cheese served along with salad to balance up the diet of the meal. The minced beef Bolognese is well cooked –tender. A note of symphony in your mouth after every bite piques your craving for it.

The next dish is for diners who favour pies. The Chunky Chicken Mushroom Pie is a must to try. The pie is served along with button mushroom, grill chicken and creamy sauce. The outer layer of the pie is so crispy it crumbles with every cut and bite.  The sauce flows out, warming your taste buds, making it even delicious.
Chunky Chicken Mushroom Pie. RM20.90

Taking the Ben’s chocolate cake is never regret as a dessert; the chocolate cake is served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a thick layer of melt chocolate is lay on the top of the cake, making it irresistible for everyone.
Ben’s chocolate cake.RM10.90

Overall, it is a restaurant worth visiting or even patrolling. It is a comfortable dining place with contemporary yet vintage interior, offering food from both Asian and western cuisine. It gives delectable senses to your sight and tongue. Having a glass of crisp red or white wine while savouring the scrumptious food, it is the sprinkles to a sundae. To sum up the whole with a word –precise enough –splendid.

Lunch At Pappa Rich

Lunch with my dad at Pappa Rich

Last weekend I had to come down to Sunway area for a visit with some family friends. In conjunction to that I have decided to do some all of a sudden shopping with my dad and the only attraction to that is Sunway Pyramid. So it was about 12 noon when we decided to have our lunch and after walking round and round we finally stopped at Pappa Rich with a very good solution for our arguments for looking for food in this country could be rather interesting because there is just too much to decide upon. In Pappa Rich they have the local cuisines and also western so that’s what made us choose that place.

So as we entered the restaurant, I have noticed several things like its cleanliness for a head start. The restaurant was clean but it had a slight odour of all the cooking in the kitchen the place wasn't really well equipped with a proper ventilation system. The second thing I observed was the lighting of the place, it was dimmed and therefore the place was cosy. So my dad chose to sit down and the furniture there was comfortable but the tables was arranged too close to each other so I think it was inconvenient for some of the customers because they had to stop their meals and move in order to let people pass through. At this time of around 1pm the restaurant was packed with people.

They have provided the menu on the table and there is a piece of paper and pencil because this restaurant has a very systematic way of placing your order. We just had the write down the coding’s of the food and beverage there is also a remark column for any remarks on your order, after that we just have to call the waiter and pass the paper and we were done with our order. It took about less than 15 minutes for the order to come and the smell of the food was really mouth-watering and it also looked very tempting. I ordered their famous Nasi Lemak with Rendang Ayam and my dad ordered Asam Laksa.

My plate of “Nasi Lemak” had the main items in a normal Nasi Lemak which is rice, fried anchovies, ground nuts, full boiled egg, cuts of cucumbers and lastly sambal. But this one had chicken rendang too in it and it was a terrific combination and it was very delicious although I am not really a fan of chicken rendang but I do love spicy food and this wasn’t really spicy I personally feel that it was overall a good meal as I really enjoyed the food. On the other hand, my dads bowl of “Asam Laksa” looked rather delicious too although I didn’t taste his food but I am sure he enjoyed his food.

For drinks I ordered nothing but a glass of plain ice water but my dad ordered a glass of ice coffee. It certainly tasted good.

We were done with our lunch in about an hour until we called for our bill. I was rather shocked when we received our bill  for it was over forty ringgit. I felt like it was too expensive for eating simple Malaysian food and having to pay that much of a price but then again I realised the location the atmosphere also the service they gave it was okay to pay that much. But my over all experience there was great there is nothing to shout out about it, they gave good food and service although it was cramped up but I assume that’s only during their peak hours. I would definitely come back here with friends or even family.
